Public Speaking

Fernhill’s Public Speaking and Debating Club meets every week in the English department. Pupils who come along get the chance to enter tournaments competing against other schools throughout the year, including the COPFS Public Speaking Competition, the Donald Dewar Memorial Debating Competition and the Glasgow University Union Debating Day.

We also host occasional internal debates between our own pupils, organised and judged by senior students. Our friendly and supportive members help each other to prepare speeches, practise answering questions and get their arguments just right. Speaking out in public can be a daunting experience, but with our encouragement we help pupils to find their voice.
